Make Your Holiday Guests Feel at Home

With the holidays around the corner you may be expecting a bundle of friends and family. Make each guest feel special and at home with these warm and welcoming ideas.
Leave a little treat on their bed. Prepackaged chocolates and candies are great, but homemade goodies are extra special.

Whether they are coming from across country or just across town, help your guest distress from the holiday travel chaos with a plush robe and comfy slippers.
Create a toiletries basket with necessities they might have forgotten at home.

Hospitality basket of bathroom items. A supply of just-in-case items for overnight guests, including a scented candle and an alarm clock.:
Help your guests settle in by leaving the wifi password in their room. By incorporating it as a cute print and framing it, it can also double as art!
Leave out a water carafe, glasses, and some napkins to refresh your guests.
Don't forget the men! Choose simple, handcrafted items for a more masculine vibe.

And the Color of the Year Is...

2016 will be an interesting year for design and fashion trends, with two of the biggest companies in our industry naming shades of white as their color of the year. Benjamin Moore's Simply White and Sherwin-Williams' Alabaster are crisp, pure colors that speak to a shift towards the fresh, subtle, and effortlessss for the year.
What does this mean? Expect to see monochromatic schemes everywhere! This movement away from color might be a little overwhelming, but there are ways to incorporate the neutral without sterilizing your space.

Fresh floral arrangements not only add color to a room, but will leave you reinvigorated and energized.

Adding creative nicknacks, family heirlooms, and second-hand treasures personalize a space and provide visual interest.

Dark flooring in a subtle pattern adds depth and value to this space. Keep clutter in its place by incorporating clever storage places, like the mobile cart in the corner. Fun statement pieces, like the rug, add visual interest and a welcoming feel to the space.

Incorporate variety between materials by choosing fabrics and wall coverings with different patterns and textures. Small, intricate details (like the wallpaper pattern and bedding texture, can be balanced out with larger, simple ones (like the beautiful bedside chest and the coffered ceiling).

Soft greys and distressed woods create a calming space that invites relaxation.
Natural elements, such as wood, wicker, and rattan emphasize the purity of the color and create an effortless vibe.

Break away from the traditional and splurge on some funky, handmade pieces. Perfectly imperfect furniture stands out in a white space, and help to soften the color.

How are you using white this year?

UF ASID Tradeshow

Two weeks ago, the University of Florida's chapter of the America Society of Interior Designers hosted a tradeshow, showcasing many commercial products. So many amazing companies were represented, including Mayer Fabrics, Knoll Studio, KnollTextiles, Herman Miller, Wilsonart, Mannington, Daltile, Kardea Design Flooring, OEC Business Interiors, Steelcase, and Eykon Design Resources. Thank you to all of the vendors who participated!

We had fun spinning on the Spun Chair by Herman Miller.

The Washington Skin Nylon Chair, designed by world architect David Adjaye, comes in many tons of fun colors!
The turnout was great and everyone had a fun time mingling.
Mannington commercial flooring catches the eye with intriguing patterns.

KnollTextiles showcased some of their fantastic new products, like these gator colored acoustical panels.
